Roatan Update December 2007 |
| |
We are now in our 9th month upon our return from the states in April of 2007. Thank you, first of all, for the steadfast prayers for Living Water 4 Roatan, as well as, your hospitality while we were in the states. We would also like to thank you in advance for your end of the year giving to Living Water 4 Roatan! We wish each of you a blessed Merry Christmas and a joyous Happy New Year!

We returned to Roatan, Honduras following an 8-hour flight that turned into a two-day flight. Upon our arrival at the Jacksonville Airport, we found that our flight had been cancelled. We had to be re-routed, which is a huge challenge, because there are only two international flights on Saturday’s that fly directly into Roatan, Honduras. We made it back safely, while God was steadily teaching us patience, through these circumstances. |

We returned to Roatan to find that the Policarpo side of the Colonia had not been receiving water for 10 months. We witnessed kids digging shallow wells in order to get water. These shallow wells are extremely contaminated with feces that drain from down the hills into the shallow wells. |

We met with Dr. Raymond, from the Clinic of Hope, and found out that two children had died from drinking unclean water. Ms. Peggy, Director of the Clinic of Hope, advised us she had treated many children from Policarpo that had acquired horrible skin diseases. |

Our emergency plan was to locate large water containers and two large trucks that would be used to transport water. Kent Roland, from the local Hardware store, and Chuck Laird, from Son Rise Mission Inn, provided the trucks to transport water to the people living in the Policarpo village. What a sight it was as the people would hear the loud trucks coming into the Policarpo! They came running from the hills with their empty buckets, mostly women and small children. |

Our short-term plan included LW4R providing 3,000 feet of pipe, that would be connected to our Well and run to the Policarpo Church. We had many volunteers from the village that helped dig the trench needed to bury the pipes. The water valve, located at the church, would be the location for the people to come and retrieve safe water for cooking, washing dishes and clothes. |

The initial phase of long-term solution is to provide water to this village by drilling a Well in the Policarpo area. This was the first step that enabled water to be sent directly to houses every other day. During the month of July, a large Well Driller began an exhausting effort of drilling a new Well. This process was difficult because the drilling team was not able to get enough water until the final stages of this process, which required a minimum of 30 gallons of water per minute. |

The next phase of the long-term plan involved a team from 1st Baptist of Blackshear, Georgia. This team laid pipes from a new Well to the houses, located in the village. Additionally, Booster Pumps were installed, which will increase water pressure during the dry season and allow water to be pumped to these houses every other day. |

Roopville Road Baptist Church brought a team of 29 people during the month of June 2007. During their week stay they built a home for a single mom with 6 children, renovated a portion of the Mission Inn Hotel. They also left all of their tools that they brought in to build the house and repair the Mission Inn Hotel. |

The pictures and text communicates the things that God has allowed LW4R to be a part of since April of 2007. |
| |
| |
This has been made possible by people praying, giving and coming to Roatan on short term mission trips. God has lead LW4R to the Colonia to complete the holistic needs of this community. |
| |
| |
We believe God has given us the direction to purchase land in the Colonia to build a Community Center. This Community Center will be a place for kids to come and be kids. The Community Center will have church services, offering God’s gift of salvation and provide a place where believers can grow in their knowledge and love of Christ. |
| |
| |
LW4R 2008 GOALS : COMPLETE THE WATER PROJECT, IMPLEMENT THE SPIRITUAL PHASE OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER, ENCOURAGE TEAMS TO COME . |
| |
| |
Please, pray for what God has stirred up in our hearts that will meet the physical and spiritual needs of this village will come to pass. Please do not let us be guilty of James 4:2b, “yet you have not, because you ask not.” |
| |
| |
THE GOALS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THE FOLLOWING: |
| |
| |
- PRAYER WARRIORS
- MONTHLY GIVERS
- ONE TIME GIVER
- TEAMS TO COME TO ROATAN ON SHORT TERM MISSION TRIPS

Below is a picture of a little one that had filled up the water container from the back of a truck to take to his house. |

| |
| |
Please begin providing a new life for this little one. We can do that through pumping water directly to his house, building a Community Center for him to have a place to go and be a kid. Most importantly learn about the Jesus we all know. Then he can build on a life that Jesus promises. |
